Features

Simple Setup. Powerful Insights.
We believe technology should enhance your experience, not complicate it. Getting started with RipBit is as easy as paddling out.

RipBit is a revolutionary, board-mounted performance tracker that captures every detail of your surf session with precision and simplicity. It’s lightweight, rugged, and fits directly into the included traction pad or on the board via the dome mount. RipBit differs from wrist mounted trackers or watches because it measures the motion of the board itself rather than gathering faulty or noisy data from your arm. This avoids wave readings and allows you to narrow down the most important movements, the movement of your board through the water.

1. Mount it and Go

The RipBit slides into our custom traction pad or versatile dome mount and locks in with a friction fit. You won't even know it's there.

2. Hit the Waves

RipBit’s sealed construction avoids buttons or seals that may need maintenance. Just hold the magnetic key over the icon and RipBit will light up and be ready to go.

3. Sync & See Your Session

When you're done, hold the magnetic key over the icon again and the RipBit will enter pairing mode and can connect to the SurfOne app wirelessly, instantly transforming your session into shareable stats and insights.

Wave Count & Ride Time: Did you really catch 20 waves, or was it 12? Know your exact wave count and total time spent riding, session after session.

GPS Wave Mapping: Relive your path on every wave. Our precision GPS shows your exact line, from takeoff to kick-out, overlaid on a satellite map. See where you are in the lineup and how far you traveled

Turn Analysis: This is where the progress happens. RipBit’s advanced motion sensors analyze the angle, G-force, and speed of your turns, helping you break down your movements so you can see what a good bottom turn or cutback looks like.

Air Time & Height (Stretch Goal!): For our advanced surfers, we’re developing an algorithm to track time out of the water. Help us hit our stretch goals to make aerial tracking a reality!

Built by Surfers, for Surfers
For years, we’ve been obsessed with progression. We tried using sports watches, but they were clunky, inaccurate in the water, and missed the board’s intricate movements. We knew there had to be a better way—a tool built from the board up, designed specifically for the unique dynamics of surfing.
So we built it. From a bundle of wires stuffed in a plastic box to the streamlined, wireless, fully sealed and app enabled device you see today. We tested this over thousands of surf sessions and are excited to share something that meets the high bar of weekend surfers and professionals alike.

Our Journey & Why We Need You
After six years of late nights, countless 3D-printed prototypes, and hundreds of hours of testing in everything from sloppy wind swell to clean overhead conditions, we have a production-ready design for the SurfOne RipBit.

Long-lasting design
The Rip Bit is fully sealed and built to take a beating in the water and out. We've also used the highest quality EVA foam to ensure a long life for our accessories.

Something else
Our origami style packaging does not utilize staples or glue making the box for the RipBit bundle easy to recycle.

FAQs

Your Questions Answered

The RipBit weighs 1.5 grams, or about 1/3 of what a bar of surf wax weighs and theplacement of the device using the SurfOne traction pad generally goes unnoticed.

How much does the App Cost?

When the bundle is purchased, the first 12 months of the APP subscription are included at the “Pro Version” level. After 12 months you can down grade to the standard App, keep the Pro Version for a cost of $6 per month.

What is included in the Rip Bit Bundle?

What if I want to purchase additional Rip Bit devices?

Additional Rip Bit’s will be available for purchase on the Surf One Website.

Can I use the RipBit without having a video of my surf session?

Yes, the Achievements section functions perfectly without video.

What kind of video camera will work with the RipBit?

Most video cameras, newer smart phones, Surfline beach cams, and drone cameras will work. Some wave pools will have installed camera systems that can be used as long as an accurate time stamp is provided on the video file.

Does the RipBit have a warranty?

Yes, the Rip Bit device will have a 1-year warranty for manufacturer defects and units damaged in shipping. We do not warranty lost units.

Which mounting / placement method should I use to attach the RipBit to my board?

The answer depends on the two things: 1) Type of board. Soft tops and longboards should generally use the dome mount which can be placed anywhere near the center of the board that does not impede your ability to get to your feet. 2) For shortboards, you will want to use the traction pad slot in the back of the pad for larger volume shortboards or the integrated dome mount in the front of the traction pad if you are a competitive surfer or riding low volume short boards. This placement decision will impact your speed reading so you may want to experiment with which of these methods provides the most consistent speed reading.

Can the RipBit device fall out of the mounting system while I am surfing?

We have done extensive testing with our various mounting systems and have lost no Rip Bit’s when secured to the mounts properly. However, you should check to make sure the device is fully inserted into the EVA foam mount. Avoid exposing the RipBit to oily substances like sunscreen, food oils, etc.

How do I know when the battery needs charging?

The third flashing light will change color from green, to light green, to yellow, and then red indicating battery draw down. We advise charging when it shows yellow.

How long does it take the Rip Bit to charge on a charging Pad?

Depending on your charging pads wattage, it should take between 20 and 40 minutes. Do not use a charging pad that is higher than 15 watts and do not overcharge.
