The answer depends on the two things: 1) Type of board. Soft tops and longboards should generally use the dome mount which can be placed anywhere near the center of the board that does not impede your ability to get to your feet. 2) For shortboards, you will want to use the traction pad slot in the back of the pad for larger volume shortboards or the integrated dome mount in the front of the traction pad if you are a competitive surfer or riding low volume short boards. This placement decision will impact your speed reading so you may want to experiment with which of these methods provides the most consistent speed reading.
We have done extensive testing with our various mounting systems and have lost no Rip Bit’s when secured to the mounts properly. However, you should check to make sure the device is fully inserted into the EVA foam mount. Avoid exposing the RipBit to oily substances like sunscreen, food oils, etc.
